The Birla Institute of Applied Sciences was set up with the basic aim of bringing affordable technical education to the doorstep of the people residing in the remote and relatively backward Kumaon region. With this objective in mind, a Masters Program in Computer Application (MCA) was started in the year 1989. Further progress was made with the introduction of the 3-year post-graduation B.tech. course in the year 2000 which has now been converted to a 4-year B. E. course (post 10+2).

BIAS Bhimtal, provides contemporary professional education and training services to meet individual, industry and community needs. It invigorates and strengthens the Uttaranchal region through its educational programs, research initiatives and outreach efforts which prepare the students for lifelong learning and responsible participation in the local as well as global community. The Institute has developed into a centre of excellence in Electronics and Communication Engineering & Computer related disciplines while also opening avenues for overall personality development of the students.
