Tea Promotion program

During 1993-94 two units of St-378 were brought from Tocklai which yielded 12000 plants, which were planted in an area of around .75 Hec. These were planted at Mr. Himmat Singh's Mehra's  land at Niglat in 1995, who was the first villager to risk planting Tea, as it was moreor less an unknown crop and returns were not known. The risk taken by Sri Mehra by offering his land resulted in planting the tes there , even though the soil had a very high pH.

It may be noted that the Institute is bearing all expences for the first seven years after planting and the farmer gets a ready garden without having to spend a single penny for the first seven years. The motive is to propogate the plantation and prove that tea can be grown as a successful venture in Uttarakhand.
